9 Natural Ways to Get Rid of Eye Bags

9 Natural Ways to Get Rid of Eye Bags
Eye bags are a telltale sign of exhaustion. They form due to fluid build-up under your eyes, which could be caused by several reasons, including lack of sleep, stress, allergies and, let’s face it, partying a bit too hard. If puffy eyes have become a constant part of your complexion, you should try to find the reason behind the issue. Eye bags don’t only look bad – they are your body’s way of showing you that you need to make some changes to your lifestyle and get more rest. Still, if they only invade your face occasionally, there are some testes, natural ways to get rid of under eye swelling.

1. Say no to salt

Salt makes your body retain more water than normal, the result being that you feel bloated. This is true for every part of the body, including the eyes. Eliminating salt from your diet is not easy, but it has many health and beauty benefits. You should also read the nutrition information on packaged foods, as many of them contain large quantities of salt.

2. Blink away

During the heavy stages of sleep, or REM sleep, you blink a lot less than normal. The purpose of blinking is not only to hydrate and protect your eyes when you are awake, but also do disperse the fluids around your eyes. Recurrent eye bags might mean that you don’t blink enough in your heavy sleep. What you can do is blink rapidly for 30 seconds upon waking up.

3. It is all in the water

To speed-up your metabolism and make sure puffy eyes never bother you again, drink at least two liters (half a gallon) of water every day. Staying hydrated is important for all bodily functions and can do wonders for your looks. If you are one of those people who don’t like drinking water, you can set an alarm, at approximately one hour intervals, that reminds you to do it. Remember that juices and other beverages cannot substitute dear old H2O.

4. Fresh as a cucumber

If there is one classic beautifying technique, this has got to be it. Cucumber slices are not only for show, they can actually help you eliminate eye bags. This deliciously fresh veggie contains vitamin C, caffeic acid and silica, all of which prevent water retention and swelling. Chill a couple of cucumber slices in the freezer and apply to your eyes for 10 minutes.

5. Small potatoes

Puffy eyes are no big deal at all, provided you have some potatoes lying around. You can use potatoes just like cucumbers – cut them up into thin slices, chill in the freezer for a bit and place on your eyelids for 10 minutes. This tasty root contains a lot of starch, which helps with swelling and inflammation.

6. Coffee or tea?

When it comes to eye bags, the answer is always tea. Chamomile and green tea are not only soothing beverages, they are also wonderful beautifying tools. Find a calm, serene place where you can sip your tea, while applying the chilled tea-bags on your eyes. Stay like that for 10-15 minutes to soothe puffy eyes.

7. Egg-white omelet

Egg-whites are a nutritious, cholesterol-free breakfast, but they can also be incorporated into your cosmetic regiment. If eye bags have been bothering you, beat a few egg-whites in a bowl, but instead of pouring them in the pan, spread them over your eyes with a brush. Wait about 20 minutes until the mixture dries and your skin starts feeling tighter, then rinse with lukewarm water.

8. Milk it

Milk is yet another nutritious substance that can wonders for beautifying your eyes. Dip two cotton balls or a towel in warm (but not hot) milk and apply to your eyelids. Stay like this for 15-20 minutes to relieve the stress and tension from your eyes.

9. Spooning

If you have a persevering eye bag problem, all you need are a couple of spoons. Freeze them overnight then, in the morning, apply to your eyes until they are not cold anymore. If you want to see significant change in your complexion, repeat for at least two weeks.
