Recipe : Espresso & Vanilla Milkshake

This milkshake is packed with 26g of protein and is low in calories (75 to be exact!), you woll satisfied and full. This recipe required use of tofu, but I promise you won’t taste it. Does tofu even taste?! Anyway, just enjoy the creamy texture, zero sugar and much-needed caffeine for a breakfast on-the-go, or as post-workout re-fuel for those tired muscles. INGREDIENTS: ½ pack silken tofu* 1 shot espresso (or 1 tsp coffee granules in 1/8 cup hot water) ½  tsp pure vanilla 1 cup water ½  tsp Natvia (stevia) or ½  raw honey (if you like it sweet) METHOD: Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend it until smooth. Serve in a cold glass, with a few ice cubes if desired. Tips: *Don’t sub the silken tofu with hard tofu – you’ll end up with a very lumpy milkshake! If you can handle dairy, try adding plain Greek Yoghurt instead of tofu.

The Power of Protein

Protein is an essential element of a healthy diet. You may only think of meat when you think about protein, but this important nutrient actually comes in a number of different forms. Choosing a variety of protein-rich foods while still paying attention to your fat and cholesterol intake are the keys to healthy eating. Why We Need Protein Sure, protein tastes good, but why is it so good for the body? "It's an essential nutrient," says Anne Wolf, RD, registered dietitian and researcher at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Protein serves as a critical building block for cells and tissues throughout our body. "We need it for every function in our body — for healing purposes and for building muscles," explains Wolf.
